Tips on Prepreparing the House
for a Pre-Listing InspectionIf selling your house, make sure the house is prepared for an inspection.
Follow these simple actions if the seller is still living in the house at the time of inspection:- Clean your house. Ensure the inspector can see the walls, floors and structure as much as possible. Remove storage boxes as well as any cars in the garage.
- Ensure proper accessibility to all areas of the house with no locked doors, fences, garages and attic spaces. If the attic hatch is in the closet, ensure nothing is blocking access.
- Please remove any pets that can roam around the house.
- It is best if the homeowner and their family, especially children, are not in the house during the inspection.
- Ensure the real estate agent or the inspector has the remote for the garage door.
- The inspector will not usually park in any parking spaces for the house but instead on the street in front of the house. Ensure no cars are in front of the house. Please notify the inspector ahead of time if they are allowed to park in their parking spaces.
